Dominick DeGaetano, 92, Eastchester Resident

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Dominick DeGaetano, 92, of Eastchester passed away on Aug. 15.

He was born on March 23, 1923 to the late Natale and Catherina DeGaetano in the Bronx. Early in his life, Dominick helped the war effort when he was deployed to Europe where he served in the Army during World War II. Later he worked as a jeweler and his entrepreneurial drive led him to start several successful businesses including a furniture store, a car wash, and also the Deed Real Estate company which he ran with his loving wife and partner Edith DeGaetano. Mr. DeGaetano took an active role in Rotary International and the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce for many years. Dominick is well remembered for his colorful storytelling and gracious manner. He was the oral historian for his family that extends to his great-great-grandchild.

He took immense pride and pleasure in his family's accomplishments. Dominick is survived by his sister, Angela Penso and brother, Demetrius DeGaetano; loving grandchildren, Noah DeGaetano and Kira DeGaetano-Souza; great-grandchildren, Tymaya Scott Paulo and Joaquim DeGaetano Souza; great-great-granddaughter, Kulanihako'i Paulo and his daughter-in-law, Deanna DeGaetano. Dominick was predeceased by his wife Edith, his sons Noel and Robert DeGaetano and his brothers Frankie, Phillip and Vincent DeGaetano.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at the Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. in Eastchester.
