She moved to the Tuckahoe-Mount Vernon area in 1930, and was a trustee of the Tuckahoe Public Library.
Nielsen was an American Red Cross nurse’s aide at Lawrence Hospital.
She also was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Tuckahoe, and the Sons of Norway.
She won trophies for ballroom dancing at New York City's Harvest Moon Ball.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Nielsen Wilkins and Linda Nielsen; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Herman Nielsen, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 615 Slaters Lane, Alexandria, VA 22314.
