Robert (Bob) Ecklond, 87, Of Tuckahoe

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. - Robert (Bob) Ecklond, of Tuckahoe and Ocala, Fla., died after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 18 surrounded by his wife and children. He was 87.

Ecklond grew up in Fleetwood in Mount Vernon, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the 20th Special Naval Construction Battalion Seabees until 1946.

He joined the Naval Reserve and went back to active duty during the Korean War, serving from April 1950 to July 1953.

Ecklond is survived by his wife Gladys, children Michael Crowley of Eastchester, Laura Lovas and her husband Richard of Port Ludlow, Wash., Charles and his wife Kim of Delray Beach, Fla., Kathryn of Pompano Beach, Fla., Steven and his wife MaryAnne of Tuckahoe, and Barbara and her husband Dave of Pewaukee, Wis., two step-children, Kathleen Arapoglou and her husband Aki of Piraeus, Greece, Robert O'Shea and his wife Allison of Scottsdale, Ariz., 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is set for Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church in Bronxville.

Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
