Eastchester Fire Leaves 11 Out In The Cold

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Nearly a dozen people were displaced in the wee hours of Monday morning in Eastchester after a fire tore through a multi-family residence.

Fire officials confirmed that 11 people were left out on the street on Monday morning after a fire spread through a three-story property on White Plains Road near the Eastchester-Scarsdale town line.

The call came shortly after 3 a.m., and it took firefighters less than an hour to have the blaze under control.

The fire started on the second level before spreading to the third story, leaving five families, and several children, in the cold. Volunteers with the American Red Cross is assisting three families with emergency provisions and is actively seeking temporary housing as clean up crews continue to clear out the damage.

The building sustained substantial smoke and flame damage to the top two floors, while the ground floor, which includes Mona Lisa Salumeria Italian Gourmet deli and a separate apartment had water damage from firefighters’ efforts to knock down the flames.
