In the past few weeks, there have been multiple burglaries in Eastchester and Scarsdale, prompting a police response. On Wednesday, residents in Eastchester received an alert from the police department with a warning about the burglaries and a list of tips to keep their properties safe.
This isn’t the first time that properties in Eastchester and Scarsdale have been burglarized. In the past few years, Eastchester police investigated a rash of car burglaries, Scarsdale police have looked into a series of incidents when the master bedrooms of homes have been ransacked and the Tuckahoe police have offered advice and tips in the past to avoid such instances.
Tips ranged from the simple and obvious: keep doors and windows locked or contact the police if you see something suspicious in the neighborhood, to more obscure advice, such as keeping valuables out of view of first floor windows and setting timers for exterior and interior lights when homeowners are away.
“Our department continues to urge residents to take precautions that will reduce the risks of being victimized by these and other crimes of opportunity,” the department wrote in a statement. “By following the recommendations, (homeowners) will lessen the chances of being victimized, while assisting our department in keeping your families, property and neighborhoods safe from these opportunistic criminals.”
