EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – An Eastchester resident reported to police on Monday that her purse had been stolen while she was shopping, and the thief used her credit cards illegally.

Eastchester police Lt. Robert Jensen said the victim was shopping in Talbots on White Plains Road when she left her purse on a shelf to retrieve something from the back of the store. When she returned to retrieve the purse, it was missing.

The next week, an unauthorized charge of $1,700 to Best Buy appeared on her credit card statement.

The following items also were reported by Eastchester police:

Suspended License: An Eastchester resident was arrested Thursday, Oct. 25, on Mill Road after a routine traffic stop exposed her suspended license, police said. Shortly after 7 a.m. police pulled the driver over after she disobeyed a traffic control device, police said. She was charged with disobeying the traffic device and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Her husband, who was the passenger, was permitted to drive her home.

Stolen TV: A Garth Road resident's television was stolen after she left it on the curb in front of her apartment while she went to retrieve her car from the parking lot. Jensen said the resident left her 27-inch flat-screen TV, and when she moved her car to the front of the building, the set was gone. Jensen said someone probably thought the television was garbage and took it innocently.
