The competition, which included 44 Explorer Posts from numerous jurisdictions on the East Coast, tested the Explorer's police-related tactical stations.
Greenburgh Police Sgt. Robert J. Gramaglia, the C.O. Community Affairs Unit, said the Explorers showed expertise in dealing with car stops, building searches, police bike riding and other police skills.
"The Explorers are graded on how they complete each task," Gramaglia said. "They are confronted with real life situations that police officers see each and every day."
The Town of Greenburgh Police Department Explorer Post placed fourth place overall and earned numerous individual first-, second- and third-place awards as well.
Greenburgh's Explorer Post 2003 was established in September 2003 by Police Officer Peter Dandreano and Sgt. James Duckham as a cooperative effort between the Community Affairs Unit and the Boy Scouts of America. The post is geared toward young men and woman ages 14-20, who have an interest in law enforcement.
Explorers experience all aspects of law enforcement and are trained to develop a feeling of a social awareness, responsibility and an interest in law enforcement practices and ethics.
