According to a 2002 Post Star report, James D. Perron, who was charged with a felony count of grand larceny after being arraigned in Scarsdale on Wednesday, was convicted on rape, sodomy and attempted murder charges in 1989 before the conviction was overturned in 2001 when a judge ruled he was inadequately represented.
In 1989, Perron pleaded guilty to charges of rape and attempted murder after he allegedly choked and sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman in a Vermont bar. After serving more than 10 years in prison, his conviction was overturned in 2001 and he was released.
According to the report, in 2002, he made a deal with prosecutors that included him pleading guilty to attempted second-degree murder, but allowed him to be immediately eligible for parole, rather than fight the charges.
In Scarsdale, the 48-year-old contractor surrendered to police on a felony arrest warrant for second-degree grand larceny. He was accused stealing more than $50,000 in cash from while working for an 80-year-old and 93-year-old resident in Fox Meadow.
