A two-month investigation resulted in the arrest of Enoch Sarkodie, 29, of Marietta, Ga., according to police.

The investigation began when a police officer was dispatched to the home of a Harrison senior citizen on a larceny complaint.

The victim, a 90-year-old female, reported receiving several phone calls from a male caller who said his name was Mark Freedman. The caller said he was a lawyer representing the victim’s granddaughter, who had just been involved in a car accident causing injuries to herself and others.

The elaborate and convincing telephone scheme went as far as having a female caller pose as the victim’s granddaughter. Believing what the caller was saying, the Harrison victim was scammed out of $23,000, police said. The victim's name was not released by police.

Harrison police conducted an immediate investigation, which led them to identify the primary suspect as Sarkodie.

Sarkodie waived extradition and was transported back to Harrison, where he was due to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on one felony count of third-degree grand larceny.

Police said this scam, as well as others, are circulating throughout the community and are very convincing. Residents are advised to call police if they receive any suspicious calls or mails.
