Morning Fire Displaces 28 Yonkers Residents

YONKERS, N.Y. – A Friday morning fire in Yonkers left approximately 28 people displaced.

Authorities said the blaze began at about 12:30 a.m. behind a multifamily home at 165 Linden Street on two floors in the rear of the building.

A total of five families were displaced, according to the Yonkers Fire Department.

A tenant and six firefighters were taken to the hospital.

Yonkers OEM and the Red Cross provided assistance.

Enrico Fermi on school on Poplar was opened for temporary shelter. Families were allowed to get some belongings from their apartments but they were unable to stay there, the Yonkers FD reports.

There was fire smoke and water damage to two apartments and smoke throughout.

Doors were forced throughout

A total of 40 firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze.
