Mount Vernon Teen Charged With Rape, Kidnapping

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – A Mount Vernon teenager was arraigned on a 28-count indictment on Wednesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a pair of women – including an 11-year-old girl – at knifepoint at a local elementary school.

Javon Roberts, 15, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison after he first abducted a 23-year-old female in October of last year, then an 11-year-old girl in December as she was walking home from a concert at the library, according to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

Both victims were taken to the grounds of Grimes Elementary School, where they were assaulted, DiFiore said.

Roberts abducted his first victim at knifepoint, when he attempted to rape her on Monday, Oct. 20 last year, DiFiore said. Determining that he was too exposed to the public, he brandished the knife, forcing his victim to the school, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him and anally sodomized her, said DiFiore.

Roberts then let his victim – who immediately alerted the police, who came up short in looking for him – walk away, DiFiore said.

Then, on Thursday, Dec. 4, Roberts repeated his act, this time to an 11-year-old girl who was walking home from a Christmas concert at the library at approximately 8 p.m., according to DiFiore. He again took her to Grimes Elementary School, where he pulled out a knife and forced the child to perform oral sex in a stairwell before he raped her, DiFiore said.

According to DiFiore, when the child yelled in pain during the two-hour attack, Roberts warned her to “Shut up, or I will kill you.”

It looked as if Roberts would get away with his crimes a second time, but after he was brought in for an interview with police regarding an unrelated case, a water bottle he drank from was turned over to the Westchester County Crime lab, which was able to link him to the two attacks.

Roberts has been charged with a pair of felony rape charges, 12 counts of committing first-degree criminal sexual act, two counts of kidnapping and kidnapping in the second degree as a sexual motivated felony, one count of attempted rape, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of attempted assault and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act.

He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and endangering the welfare of a child.

Although he will be tried in criminal court, Roberts is being considered a juvenile offender because he is under 16-years old. He is due back in court on Tuesday, May 12, 36 days before his birthday.

“The brutal and violent acts this defendant is alleged to have committed against these two victims, one an 11 year old girl, are extremely dangerous and disturbing,” DiFiore said.

“We are thankful for the excellent detective work and forensic analysis performed in this case and we are most grateful for the courage displayed by these two victims in coming forward to assist in holding this defendant accountable for the depraved crimes he is accused of committing,”
