The burglaries came to light when police received a call around 6:56 a.m., Wednesday, from the owner of the Hastings Center Restaurant, at 540 Warburton Ave., reporting that his business had been entered during the overnight hours, said Lt. David Dosin.

An investigation by officers found that someone had entered through a rear door by smashing a window. The cash register in the restaurant was damaged and an unknown of cash was missing, he added.

A canvas of the area by officers located an attempted burglary at Hastings Stationary Store, at 536 Warburton Ave. An attempt to enter the establishment was made by smashing the rear door window. The glass on the window was shattered but did not break, Dosin said.

Officers also discovered another attempted burglary at Sterling National Bank, at 560 Warburton Ave. An attempt to enter the bank was made by smashing one of the window panes. The suspect was unable to break a secondary window pane and the person was unable to enter the building.

Another commercial burglary was discovered at Peter Gisolfi Associates, at 566 Warburton Ave. The suspect entered through a rear window which had its glass broken. The establishment was ransacked and various computer equipment was stolen, Dosin said.

The final burglary was discovered at the Protection Fire House, at 573 Warburton Ave. The suspect entered the firehouse through a second story rear window which had its glass broken. A flat-screen TV was stolen.

It is believed all the above incidents took place between midnight and 5 a.m. Wednesday, he added.
