Sgt. Richard Morris, 61, was apparently behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram when the truck hit a woman, causing nonfatal injuries, according to News 12, which reported that Morris was a father of seven.

Days after the crash, Morris went to his parents’ grave at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla and shot himself, according to News 12.

Authorities said they were not aware that Morris had any role in the hit-and-run prior to his death and that New York State Police investigators are now trying to determine whether alcohol may have had a hand in the crash, according to News 12.
