At a press briefing on Thursday, Capt. Thomas Altizio said that the Scarsdale Police Department is continuing their investigation into the homicide with assistance from the Westchester County District Attorney’s office and the Department of Public Safety Forensic Investigation Unit.
As a result, “based upon the results of (the) continuing investigation, additional charges may be filed at a later time,” Altizio said, noting that he couldn’t elaborate because the case is ongoing.
“We want to thank Commissioner George Longworth of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety for their assistance, and we continue working with the District Attorney’s Office as this investigation continues,” Scarsdale Police Chief Andrew Matturro said.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, first responders from the police department and Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps rushed to 50 Lincoln Road when Reich, 61, alerted the police that a woman had been “seriously injured” during an emergency 9-1-1 call.
Police arrested Reich immediately, and the paramedics found his wife, pediatrician Robin Goldman, 58, “in a lifeless state” after suffering stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reich was taken into custody, and transported to White Plains Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his hand. He was then returned to Scarsdale Police Headquarters before being arraigned at Scarsdale Justice Court by Judge Joaquin Alemany. He is remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.
According to Altizio, Reich made statements to police upon being arrested, but has not commented since. He is due back in Scarsdale Justice Court on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
This was the first homicide in the village since 1977, when Yale graduate Richard Herrin bludgeoned his ex-girlfriend Bonnie Garland - then a senior at the university - with a hammer while she was sleeping in her parents’ Scarsdale home. He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and served 17 years in prison.
