Several Cars Broken Into In Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Several cars were broken into and ransacked during the weekend in Eastchester, as an unknown thief made off with roughly $200 in change, police said.

On Friday, three Longview Drive residents said their cars had been entered and that valuables were missing. One resident reported $200 in quarters and an iPad missing, the second was missing a change purse and the third said her vehicle had been rifled through but nothing had been taken.

Eastchester Police Lt. Robert Jensen said the crimes likely were connected and residents can avoid such larcenies by simply locking their car doors.

“These are crimes of convenience," he said. "The suspect walks by the cars and checks to see if they’re locked. If they aren't, he can get in without making much noise. I wouldn't keep valuables in my car; it’s amazing how many people do.”

  • An Eastchester driver travelling north on California Road Tuesday afternoon was arrested and had his vehicle impounded after he was caught speeding, police said. After the driver was stopped, he was found to have a suspended registration due to a series of previous parking violations, police said.
  • A 38-year-old man from the Bronx was arrested on Friday during a routine safety check on Labelle Road. When the stop was conducted, it was discovered that his vehicle’s inspection was expired and he had previously failed to pay several tickets.
