At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Monday, April 24, members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to Summit Street off Route 9A, where a 23-year-old Manhattan resident reported that he had been the victim of an armed robbery, Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Wednesday.

According to Politopoulos, the man said he was sitting in his vehicle with a friend when a suspect outside the vehicle allegedly displayed a handgun, while two other suspects entered the vehicle and removed property from him, including approximately $1,000 in cash. The suspects then fled the scene, allowing the man to call police. No injuries were reported.

Patrol officers in the 4th Precinct and detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Units began a search for the suspect, canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance video and witness statements. Politopoulos said that the investigation determined the incident was not a random occurrence and the victim was targeted by suspects known to him.

Politopoulos said that an arrest has been made, and a 29-year-old from Yonkers has been charged with first-degree robbery, though his identity is being withheld as the investigation continues. Additional arrests are possible.
