MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Two men were injured late on Friday afternoon in a police involved shooting in Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon Police confirmed that the New York City Police Department was conducting an undercover operation in the city when shots rang out. The identities of the two men were not immediately released.

The victims were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment; their condition is unknown.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Beekman Avenue and Pease Street. One of the hospitalized victims is confirmed as a suspect in the NYPD investigation.

According to reports, no officers were injured in the shooting. It is unclear how many shots were fired in the incident, which took place in a residential neighborhood.
