WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A heroin dealer from Tarrytown whose sales allegedly contributed to the overdose death of a White Plains man has been sentenced to nearly a decade in prison.

Anthony “Taco” Delosangeles, formerly of Yorktown, was sentenced to eight years in prison, Joon Kim, the acting United States Attorney for the Southern District announced on Friday. The sentencing comes after Delosangeles pleaded guilty in March to a count of conspiracy to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin.

According to the indictment that was filed in White Plains federal court, Delosangeles and others conspired to sell heroin, and one of his customers, was a 25-year-old Westchester resident who had recently left rehab for his addiction. During a text exchange, Delosangeles allegedly learned that his customer had just left the treatment facility and “bragged to (him) that his heroin was particularly strong.”

Delosangeles’ victim was found unresponsive in his car later that day with 15 empty baggies that are consistent with bags used to pack heroin. Paramedics attempted to revive him and he remained in a coma for several days before he died. Subsequent autopsy and toxicology reports would determine he had heroin in his system which “substantially” contributed to his death.

Kim said that Delosangeles continued to sell heroin in Westchester following the fatal incident.

Officials noted that Delosangeles has already served 13 months of his sentence and will serve an additional 84 months. He was also sentenced to four years of supervised release and forfeited approximately $30,000 in drug proceeds that were seized during the investigation.

“Anthony Delosangeles sold heroin to a young man he knew had just left a drug rehabilitation program,” Kim stated.

“The same day, that young man used the heroin Delosangeles sold him, overdosed, and died. The epidemic of opioid abuse is devastating our communities, costing human lives, and ripping families apart. This Office will aggressively pursue cases against dealers who fuel this deadly epidemic.”
