While on larceny patrol at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers spotted a vehicle in the far end of the parking lot of the library, which was occupied by Elma, New York resident Laura Ogden.

When police approached the vehicle, officers reported that Ogden “appeared nervous” and she stated that she was suffering from insomnia and was on her way to Shop-Rite to go shopping. Officers noted that while speaking with Ogden, “her speech was slurred and she appeared confused with her explanation for her presence at the library.”

Officers stated that “it became apparent that she was being evasive and dishonest while answering patrol’s questions,” and Ogden proceeded to tell the officers that she was planning to leave and began to drive toward the exit of the library parking lot.

Police proceeded to conduct a motor vehicle stop and backup was dispatched to the library. Ogden told officers that she had not consumed any alcohol or taken any drugs, though there was a reported “strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.” Ogden proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, though her blood alcohol content was 0 percent.

According to police, due to the odor of marijuana, police were authorized to search the vehicle. During that search, officers observed an unlabeled prescription pill bottle and marijuana cigarettes on the center console. The bottle contained 21 pink 30 mg pills with the label “cor 136,” and three orange pills with the label “U31.”

It was later determined that those pills were a generic form of Adderall, which is a schedule 2 controlled substance. Ogden could not provide police with a prescription for the pills.

Additionally, police found a small bottle with marijuana and other drug paraphernalia, including a pipe and grinder in the console. In the rear of the console, there were 38 yellow capsules marked “215” that were found in a baggie with an empty prescription bottle next to them with the name of the prescription torn off.

Another small plastic container with an unknown white substance was also found on the front passenger seat, which was not tested in the field for safety precautions and is currently in the possession of the Westchester County Police Forensics Lab.

Ogden was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal diversion of a prescription, both misdemeanors. She was also cited for unlawful possession of marijuana. After being arraigned, Ogden was released on $100 bail and is due back in court later this week.
