SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-88) was awarded a perfect score from the Environmental Advocates of New York, a leading sustainability watchdog in the state.

Paulin, who was named as the Chair for the State Energy Committee earlier this year, has been an integral party in cleaning up her district and finding new sources of renewable energy.

“I am thrilled to earn a perfect score,” she said. “This organization’s work toward preserving the environment and the reputation it has earned as a watchdog group has made it one of the most respected advocacy groups in the state.”

In August, Paulin’s bill encouraging the use of fuel cells was passed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The new piece of legislation allows commercial customers to apply credits generated in one building’s meter to another. This form of remote net metering is also legal for customers using solar, wind, farm waste and hydroelectric equipment.

Paulin was also a strong advocate for the New York State Sun Act, a law that established solar energy incentives and financing. This is Paulin’s second award for her achievements protecting the environment in as many months. In September, she was honored by the Federated Conversationalists of Westchester County. For her environmental record since being elected to the Assembly in 2000.

“Protecting the environment should be a very high priority for every legislator in the state,” she added. Meeting the goals expected of me by my constituents makes me want to work even harder to pass more legislation aimed at protecting our national resources.”

Scarsdale resident Lorena David, who utilizes solar power at her home and drives an environmentally conscious car, praised Paulin on Thursday for her impressive track record.

“It’s nice to see our local officials honored for trying to help protect the environment around us. Even better that it was Amy, who’s active in the community,” she said in the business district. “We need more politicians working with us to (save) the environment.”
