Hillary Clinton Presidential Bid Stirs Up Interest In Chappaqua

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Dawn Greenberg has lived in New Castle for 15 years, nine of them in the town's Chappaqua hamlet. She is also among the residents who are excited that neighbor Hillary Clinton has launched her 2016 presidential campaign.

Greenberg said that she and several woman from the area gathered Sunday at local restaurant Le Jardin du Roi to celebrate Clinton's candidacy. She said it was nice to meet a cross section of women from the area and said there was a "lot of fun."

Greenberg also created a Facebook group for local supporters, which is called Chappaqua Friends of Hill and currently has 48 members. Active social media engagement has become a hallmark of life in Chappaqua, with the 5,000-person Chappaqua Moms Facebook group being a notable example, along with various topic-based groups focusing on local issues.

Greenberg is a former merchant in downtown Chappaqua, having run a fair trade goods store called Aurora. She recalled that Bill and Hillary Clinton would visit her store and has seen them numerous times in town.

Another anecdote she shared happened last fall, when the Clintons were invited to the annual children's book festival downtown, an event they could not make because their granddaughter, Charlotte, was born the night before. In response, Greenberg recalled working with participating authors who have books for toddlers to sign copies for the former first couple's newborn granddaughter. The books were then gathered, and Greenberg delivered them to the Clintons' house nearby.

Greenberg also disagrees with a portrayal of Hillary Clinton's personality, which has been described in the national press as being defensive. Having seen her speak, Greenberg described her demeanor as "so warm" and genuine.
