Hillary Clinton Endorsed Candidates Go 50-50 On Election Night

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- As Chappaqua's Hillary Clinton knows well when it comes to elections, you win some and you lose some.

Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president in 2016, weighed in on local elections last Friday, announcing her endorsement of George Latimer for County Executive and the Democratic slate for the New Castle Town Board.

Latimer easily defeated incumbent Republican Rob Astorino, denying his bid for a third term. Clinton had urged voters to reject Astorino as a referendum on President Donald Trump, who defeated her for president.

Clinton's endorsements did not resonate so well in the town she lives in. She endorsed the New Castle Democrats who fell short on election night. Supervisor candidate Kristen Browde was defeated by incumbent Rob Greenstein, though Democrat Ivy Pool was elected to the Town Board. Democrat Gail Markels was defeated in her bid to join the town board.

On Twitter, Clinton was celebrating the success Democrats had nationally, winning governor races in Virginia and New Jersey.

"Last night was a great reminder of what’s possible when we come together and fight for what we believe in," Clinton said. "It's remarkable to watch our Democratic family—groups with decades of victories and those born in the aftermath of the last election—team up to make nights like last night possible."
