WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Kenneth Jenkins, chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, called for “the strictest national gun laws in the world” on Friday after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

“The senseless and utterly horrifying death of 27 people today, including 18 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., must — I repeat, must — be the final wake-up call for government officials and elected leaders at every level to work toward making sure another tragic shooting and killing of innocents like this never occurs again,” Jenkins said. “It’s time to enact the strictest national gun laws in the world. We owe it to all of the victims.

“My prayers and heart-heavy condolences go out to the families of all those killed and traumatized by today’s shooting. If we are going to be serious about making the world a better, safer place in which to live, then we must immediately look to eliminating gun violence. The public across our land and future generations are depending on us to make the right decisions.”

Why does this disgraceful and corrupt politician still have a podium?

Guns aren't killing people - the insane demented people kill people.
Most of the licensed permits are honest, hard working people and there will always be the illegal guns on the black market that will continue to kill.Unfortunately, we will need more security personnel and metal detectors everywhere we go. What a sad world this has come to.

These whack jobs pick on the schools because they can do the maximum amount of damage before anything happens to them-they have no fear of anyone firing back. Many lives could have been saved. This event should NOT be a call for more control-the ones that are there aren't working and the ones that this grandstanding political hack wants won't either.

The sign, "gun Free Zone" is an open invitation to these nuts. making "new" Tougher" guns laws won't help.
[Chicago Murder Rate: City Hits 500 Homicides For 2012 For First Time In Four Years] Some of the strictest gun laws on the books and you get this? Politicians talk a lot and it is all baloney.

I agree sayitsnotso

Hay Ken Jenkins I just got back from the firing range and i did a experement on GUNS KILL so i laied my 9mm fully loaded on the range table and sat back to see if it would fire. After about 15 minuets guess what it never went off so i walked over thinking somthing was wrong with my gun so i picked it up---aimed down range--pulled the trigger-- and guess what --It fired not just 1 round but all 15 rounds--point to this story---GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE DO so more dumb DEMOCRATIC laws are as usless as the democrat party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The right to bear arms was made part of the constitution when rifles were capable of one shot-and pistols constantly misfired-and we had no internet-No one should have the legal right to be able to kill a class room of innocent children in seconds-, there were a lot of things that were NOT invented back then. Just WHO had the "legal right" to kill all those people? They didn't have vehicle capable of mass destruction. over 38,000 people killed by vehicles in this country alone. Shall we ban vehicles? How any people are killed in home accidents each year? The list goes on in ways humans are killed each year.

Agreed --- but you're taking a rational position on the topic --- no points for that, unfortunately.

Such an original thought from Mr. Jenkins, who in my opinion has turned himself into a joke, a sad sick joke now trying to make hay over the tragedy in Connecticut. While we need to strengthen the laws its not a county matter. Wake me when Jenkins shows he can run the county as the legislative leader, without walking out if he does not get his way.

Stricter gun laws for law abiding citizens. Ok I can see now how it works. There are no gun laws for criminals. Jenkins should be ashamed of himself. All for political gain. Stop it

Other than taking all guns away and making sure none ever enter the country again, even illegally, there is no way to stop a tragedy like this. The person that did this was reported by his brother to be emotionally and mentally unbalanced. Everyone knew that. That type of person would never have been able to a gun legally, he obviously got it by taking it from someone else. How you get all guns off of the streets? I would not even know how to begin collecting the all the guns that are out there.

Does he realize that it is not the gun that pulls its own trigger. It is the deranged individual that does.

Figures Mr Jenkins would piggy back this horrible event for his own political gain.

NY, Westchester County, has some of the strictest laws in the country.

Bad people + guns = bad things.

Don't these politicians realize that schools are legislated "gun free zones?" It is a FEDERAL CRIME to bring a firearm onto school grounds. Clearly criminals don't care about these laws.

It took less than 10 hours for this political opportunist to strike (or should I say sound th buzzer).

Mr. political hack Jenkins do you not come from Mt. Vernon where shootings are almost a weekly event? Where have you been all this time they are happening? Not once that I can remember have you spoken out on gun control, now that you see an opptunity for your run as county exec. do you become so out spoken. Please do us a favor and go away, far away.
