ARMONK, N.Y. Armonk residents will have one more shot to express their feelings on a proposed CVS that is set to move into the vacant A&P location off Main Street. The North Castle Planning Board has set a public hearing for its next meeting in early September to approve the site plan for the pharmacy.
At a meeting last week, Planning Board Chairman Robert Greene declined one residents request to comment about how the CVS would affect traffic.
That is a great topic that should and will be discussed, Greene said. But it should be discussed at the public hearing, because thats when residents come out and will be able to hear it.
The CVS group, led by lawyer Al DelBello, and its plan to bring the mega pharmacy to Armonk have been met with much scrutiny from area residents, in particular the Concerned Citizens of Armonk. Many residents attended and spoke out at a Town Board meeting in late July, when the board voted 3-2 to approve a special use permit for CVS. The Planning Board hearing is set for Sept. 10 and will be about the site plan for the 17,000-square-foot pharmacy.
Over the past several months, changes have been made to the CVS site plan, and Greene has said he supports the group for its progress. CVS plans to alter the current exterior of the building to match the New England style that is customary in Armonk and has also made improvements to the Maple Avenue entrance to the shopping center. The site plan includes a new drive-through service, and about 2,500 square feet of space in the current A&P would be rented to a new retailer.
There is no timetable for CVS to move in. Representatives of CVS have said the pharmacy would employ 20 people.
The Planning Boards September meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall in Armonk.
