In a video interview with Daily Voice, Lowey, who is running for re-election in the 17th Congressional District against Republican challenger Chris Day, said it was essential President Barack Obama reached out to the countries in the Middle East to develop a coalition to address the ISIS threat.

"I am pleased that this coalition was formed," Lowey said. "I expect that those countries in the region must be obligated to put their troops on the ground."

Lowey said American troops should not be on the ground fighting in the Middle East.

The 17th District covers Yorktown, Peekskill, Ossining, Chappaqua, Pleasantville, Cortlandt, Mount Pleasant, Briarcliff, Armonk, Greenburgh, Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Mount Kisco, Rye, Port Chester and all of Rockland County.
