From Dec. 22-25, short-term street meters in those districts will be bagged to encourage shopping in the village rather than in other larger municipalities. The board that shoppers still keep their parking limited to two hours.
“With the free parking, we’re encouraging all residents to shop locally,” Trustee Stephen Quigley said. “We have two very good business districts in the village. This gives everyone a chance to explore those. You don’t have to go to White Plains or Central Park Avenue; there are plenty of things here in Tuckahoe.”
Trustee Janette Hayes echoed Quigley’s words, reminding those in attendance that by shopping locally, some of the money spent will remain within the village.
“We have many wonderful shops, restaurants and specialty stores around us,” she said. “We want our hard-earned dollars to be spent within our village because then a portion stays here in the form of sales tax.”
In addition to the relaxed holiday shopping parking regulations, Tuckahoe Police Chief John Costanzo announced adjusted regulations in the village through the winter.
Effective immediately, snow zones have been put into effect. In areas that are posted as snow zones, which are among the busiest in the village, there is to be no parking when snow starts to fall. Those restrictions will remain in effect until 12 hours after the snow stops.
“There is a $75 fine for cars violating this ordinance,” he said. “This is a friendly reminder to residents that if snow is in the forecast, they should be wary of parking in those areas.”
