Once completed, the building will feature 59 one-bedroom units and 49 two-bedroom units. There will be a fitness center, club room, outdoor terrace and kitchen for private entertaining and a secure parking garage.

The project, which has been in the works for seven years, is being developed by Glenco Residential in partnership with Roseland, Mirado Properties and Sharp Management. New Jersey-based architecture firm Minno and Wasko designed it.

According to Tuckahoe Mayor Steve Ecklond, the developers dropped off the first of three $200,000 checks for building fees a few weeks ago and residents may soon see some progress being made. Glenco Residential hopes to have the site preparation work done by fall and should start putting up steel come winter.

As part of the project, officials at Glenco Residential will be paying for and overseeing the improvement of Main Street Park, located directly across from the project. The company will add new landscaping, decorative fencing and lights, as well as improvements to the recreational facilities.

Glen Vetromile, Glenco Residential’s development partner, said the new community would appeal to couples, singles and people in transition.

“There have been no new housing offerings of this type in this area in nearly two decades,” he said. “The demand for a quality residential offering with a high amenity package is very strong. Not everyone needs or wants a large home and many people want the carefree lifestyle that apartment living offers.”

The building is nearby various Tuckahoe restaurants and shops, and will be within walking distance of the Metro-North train station.

Ecklond said this is the beginning of several projects that will break ground in 2013.

“Tuckahoe has experienced quality revitalization over the past decade and this project is further testimony to the vibrant renaissance taking place in our community,” he said. “This new project will become the new gateway to our Main Street. We look forward to welcoming its residents to their new home.”
