Baby Safe Haven Program Offers Safe, Legal Option For Abandoned Newborns

\Officials would like to remind New York residents of the Baby Safe Haven laws after the recent death of a newborn child.

According to Time Warner Cable News, Baby Safe Haven laws in New York state permit anyone with a newborn up to 30 days old to anonymously give up their baby to a hospital, fire department or police station with no questions asked. Child Protective Services will then take custody and put the baby up for adoption. 

As previously reported, Tara Tomlin, 20, was arrested and charged by state police for second-degree murder after the body of her newborn baby was discovered in a garbage bag in a dumpster outside the Livingston Xtra Mart at Bells Pond.
