Pedaling For A Cure: Ridgefield Cyclists Take Part In Cancer Challenge

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Five fit Ridgefield cyclists will take on the 38th Pan-Mass Challenge this summer, hoping to raise millions for cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Institute.

On Aug. 5 and 6, the cyclists will join about 6,200 riders riding up to 192 miles in the Massachusetts-based challenge.

They are: Jon Chase, Tizzie Mantione, Thomas Mantione, Oliver Mullins and Alex Leritz.

This year’s riders are from more than 40 states and eight countries and their ages range from 15 to 84. Cyclists choose from 12 routes of varying mileage running through 46 towns.

The average participant trains for three months before the event and raises more than $7,000. No other single athletic event raises or contributes more money to charity than the challenge, organizers said.
