TUCKAHOE, N.Y. Work has begun in earnest on the new parish gymnasium at the Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe.
What was once a playground on the east side of the school grounds is now a full-blown work site, with concrete, cranes and mounds of earth replacing swings and a slide.
According to one worker at the location, the project still is in the beginning stage. The ground has been torn up, some of the concrete has been poured and parts of the foundation have been laid.
The state-of-the-art gymnasium is scheduled to be completed by the spring. The $3.5 million project began in July. Peter Gisolfi Associates designed the 9,500-square-foot building, and Howard Dym is the lead contractor.
