After Only Two Years, Tuckahoe Needs To Start New Search For Schools Chief

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – In a surprise move to many, Tuckahoe Superintendent of Schools Barbara Nuzzi has announced that she will be resigning from her position at the end of the school year after less than two years with the district.

Nuzzi, who came to Tuckahoe from the Putnam Valley Central School District in 2013, announced her resignation at Wednesday’s rescheduled Board of Education.

The soon-to-be former superintendent will officially enter retirement on Sept. 1 when her resignation takes effect.

The search to hire Nuzzi was a lengthy and arduous one that had to be rebooted three times over two years as the board interviewed more than 200 candidates before determining that she was the right person for the job.

Under Nuzzi, the district underwent a complete technology overhaul, and she worked with community and school leaders to develop a five-year strategic plan that will guide Tuckahoe students into 2019.

Her “Technology for All” initiative brought more than 700 Google Chromebooks that provide every student above the second grade with access to laptops in the classroom. She also oversaw a website overhaul, launched a parent portal for student information and extended Wi-Fi access for all.

Neither Nuzzi, nor Board of Education President Julio Urbina could be reached for comment on Thursday.
