EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Art was everywhere: For five days, the Eastchester Middle School gymnasium was packed with artwork created by young Eastchester artists in grades K-12. Drawings, paintings, sculpture it was a creative smorgasbord that greeted visitors to the centerpiece of the 2012 Eastchester Arts Festival.
The fine arts porition of the festival has ended, but two more events are scheduled in May. The ninth annual Film Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Eastchester High School Jazz Band will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23. Both events are in the high school auditorium.
A steady stream of visitors Tuesday saw a series of wire-wrap sculptures that depicted dancers in various poses, the wire eliciting a feeling of movement. Life-size dresses and sculptures made of paper stood like fashion models between a mask and a dragon created by senior Ken Augushi, who incorporated tiny mazes into both pieces.
There was also a collection of drawings by senior Chiaki Hagiwara inspired by the devastating tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011.
Other paintings, drawings and sculpture lined the walls and kiosks throughout the gym, surrounding a presentation area set up in the center.
The exhibit closed Tuesday night with an induction of 27 students into the National Art Honor Society. Joining the society were: Stephanie Balovar, Alexandra Bloshenko, Katherine Bloshenko, Maylee Burgoon, Rebecca Brown, Annamarie Cetinski, Francesca Chiodi, Kate Deegan, Casey Dell'Aera, Monica DiDonato, Diana Kump, Sarah Larson, Anne Lin, Samantha Noh, Gabrriella Mancini, Dina Mowmin, Catherine Manning, Casey Miranda, Kiera Murphy, Namhee Kim, Bhataki Patel, Alyssa Pullano, Michelle Porrazzo, Emmanuelle Roche, Zane Sejdiu, Molly Sullivan and Alex Zimbardo.
