EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Kindergarten and first-grade students at Waverly Elementary School in Eastchester will be treated to a musical assembly on Friday to raise sustainability awareness.
Bash the Trash Environmental Arts will play a show at the school using recycled trash as instruments. The group combines science, music and environmental awareness through performances, educational programs and social initiatives.
The artists play music, create art using found objects and serve as consultants for environmental arts education. They will showcase their introductory show for the students.
The show introduces the basic concepts of sound, vibration and instrument design while providing a tangible example of the “reuse” portion of the slogan: “reduce, reuse, recycle.”
The group will build and perform using instruments made from recycled and reused materials. The performance will serve as a journey into sound, science and music. Students will learn how the instruments are made, why they work and how they can make their own using items found around the town.
