In preparation to the fifth grade class’ visit to the nation’s original capital, where they will visit historic sites and museums, students began an in-depth study of the Constitution during the launch of “Museum Monday” earlier this week.
According to school officials, the program prepared students for their visit to the National Constitution Center, a core component of the field trip to Pennsylvania, which will concentrate on the importance of the United States Constitution.
As part of the program, students and staff have been busy studying the idea of liberty in America and how it has evolved to help form the contemporary United States. Through a series of lessons and interactive activities, students have been busy examining the Preamble of the Constitution this week, discussing and studying the forefathers that wrote and signed it.
During the trip, students will be introduced to the works of the people responsible for helping mold modern America through visits to the Ben Franklin House and Museum, National Liberty Museum, National Constitution Center, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center.
Upon their return to Bronxville, the fifth-graders will engage in project-based learning experiences as they continue studying and examining the history behind the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.
Victoria, a student in Sarah Zoneshine’s fifth grade class, said that by studying American history in advance of the trip, she and her classmates will be able to appreciate the historical sights in Philadelphia better.
“(The Constitution) has good rules to keep our country safe and clean, and it has rules for people,” she said. “It has ways to make the country a better place.”
