The awards program identifies students with exceptional artistic and literary talents.
Devitt and Harlfinger were each recognized for their artwork, which stood out among entries from thousands of students nationwide.
Art teacher Nicole Schorr said the talented students are well-respected among their peers.
“Maxine and Foster are both dedicated to their craft,” Schorr said. “They continually push their abilities and experiment with different artistic processes, take risks and abandon fear of outcome.”
Devitt received a Silver Key Award for her charcoal drawing of a friend’s hands inside a painting studio, which encouraged her to work in a manner that coaxed her out of her comfort zone.
Harlfinger received a Gold Award for his mixed media piece “Taxi,” which depicted a sense of movement and was created with an array of materials and techniques, including collage, paint and markers.
The piece is now eligible to be considered for the next round of national awards and honors.
His second piece, which earned him an Honorable Mention, features one of his favorite figurines on a bookshelf.
“He worked in his classic textural drawing style, taking into consideration an interesting visual perspective to create a sense of depth,” Schorr said of Harlfinger's artwork.
