Last year, educators at the Bronxville High School established the Student Help Desk, which is a group of student technicians that have been trained to support the entire school district and support their peers and teachers in resolving any technology issues that may arise.

According to district officials, after receiving formal training and passing an extensive task-based exam to demonstrate their mastery of the Google platform, the students become the first in the area to become certified, a designation that is typically reserved for teachers and technology leaders.

The Student Help Desk is currently comprised of 13 students that are enrolled in the program full-time. As part of the program, students investigate different topics each week, exploring new interests while participating in hands-on technological troubleshooting throughout the district. In the future, the district hopes to expand the program further to include other official certifications, including Apple.

Jennifer Forsberg, the Director of Technology - and certified Google Trainer and Administrator - for the district said that the Student Help Desk “is designed to engage students in different aspects of technology and encourage them to be leaders and innovators in their school and greater community, which are skills closely aligned with the dispositions of the Bronxville Promise.”

“Our goal was to provide students with opportunities where they can acquire extra skills and apply them when assisting staff members in their capacity as Student Help Desk members or beyond,” she added. “Our hope is that they inspire others to pursue their passions and interests and also inspire them to think outside the box when it comes to learning.”
