As part of its 100-year celebration, the event included opening remarks by president Mary Beth Del Balzo, as well as the mayor of White Plains, Thomas Roach, as the keynote speaker of the evening.

During the event, Roach presented a proclamation to Del Balzo, recognizing The College of Westchester’s 100 years, declaring May 28 The College of Westchester Day.

“Life is a daring adventure, or is nothing, and you decided to dare to improve your situation. … You should all be proud of what you accomplished. You should attack life when you come out of here. You already did with your persistence to do what you want to do in life,” Roach said to the graduating class of 2015, according to a press release.

One special moment of the evening was during the presentation of the degree of Doctor of Civil Laws, Honorius Causa, to former Mayor of White Plains, Joseph Delfino, according to a press release.

“My heart is with you all. To the families: Be proud because you have also dedicated yourself for the love of your children and their future. To the students: Education is the key, and if you work together, there is nothing you can’t accomplish. Try to work together; it makes the world of difference. Work together with your community and with your family,” Delfino said to the class of 2015 and their families after receiving the honorary degree, according to a press release.
