EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Eastchester Board of Education has announced a replacement for Scott Wynne, the former assistant principal at the middle school that was recently promoted to principal.

Josh Elder, the current assistant principal at Harrison High School, has been named Wynne’s successor.

Before assuming his position at Harrison in 2010, Elder was the supervisor of social studies in that district. He has worked in the Greece (N.Y.) School District as an assistant principal and social studies teacher. Elder has also served as a national consultant for “The Framework for Teaching.”

The appointment completes a series of personnel transition in the Eastchester School District. Wynne will be replacing current principal Walter Moran, who was named the district superintendent following the announcement of current superintendent Marilyn Terranova’s retirement at the end of the school year.

Elder beat out more than 300 other candidates that endured several rounds of interviews with faculty members, Board of Education members, parents and students.

“In addition to his administrative credentials, Elder holds a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from SUNY Potsdam and a master’s degree in education from the University of Rochester.”

Wynne – who led the search committee – added that Elder quickly emerged as the leading candidate for the coveted position. Elder is expected to be appointed at the Board of Education meeting on June 18.

“Throughout the interview process, Josh demonstrated superior knowledge of teaching and learning,” he said. “He displayed an impressive working knowledge of student management, leadership skills and a collaborative work ethic.”
