EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eastchester Middle School students in library information literacy classes participated in an "Hour of Code,"  national campaign to encourage kids to learn about writing computer code.

In all, 15 million students from across America joined the program as part of Computer Science Education Week, committing to learn the basic building blocks for computer programming and to write one hour of code.

The effort resulted in more than 600 million lines of code for the week.

The "Hour of Code" campaign had support from notable dignitaries such as President Obama, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and companies ranging from Apple to Google.

The underlying premise of the initiative is that computer science should be accessible to every 21st century student. Click here for more information.
