EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eastchester schools are urging parents to register their students for kindergarten.
Kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year is underway for children who turn 5 years of age on or before Dec. 1, 2015. Waverly School Principal Jeff Melendez said, “September may seem like a long way off, but we encourage parents to register now if you have not already done so. Registering now ensures that we will have ample time to screen students and obtain all necessary forms and information.”
The screening process, which provides information that is used to assist in the placement process, begins in March. “Children are assessed on their conceptual, motoric and speech skills in a relaxed environment. Kindergarten screening is also a great way to introduce your child to a new school. Registered children will also have the opportunity to attend orientation in May where they will spend time in a kindergarten classroom,” said Melendez.
To register a child in the school district, parents or guardians will need to provide the registration office with the documentation listed on the website. Students will not be placed in a class until all registration materials are completed, including physicals. Information on the registration process is on the school district website at http:// district.eastchesterschools.org . Click on the "For Parents" tab or on the "Registration tab."
Call the registration office at 914-793-6130, ext. 4777, for a registration appointment when you have all of the required documents and information. A screening appointment will be scheduled once the registration is complete.
