At the 12th annual scholarship dinner at The Fountainhead in New Rochelle next week, the “Man of the Year” will be joined with honorees from the local police departments in Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville and Alexandria Tucci, Miss Columbus 2016 who will star at the upcoming Columbus Day Parade.

Each year, the Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge hosts a scholarship dinner to celebrate Italian culture and heritage by honoring local individuals that have made strides in their chosen fields within the community.

According to members of the Lodge, Moran is being honored for his “leadership and commitment to the children of the Eastchester School District,” where he previously served as the principal at the Middle School before being promoted. The local police are being recognized “for the risks they take each and every day to protect and serve families and for their continued commitment to our communities.”

“Miss Columbus will be honored for her commitment to the Italian heritage and culture and her dedication to the study of the Italian language.” She has received a four year college scholarship from the Generous Pope Foundation.

Moran deferred taking credit for his accomplishments after nearly 20 years in Eastchester, commenting that any student success is a district-wide effort.

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected as ‘Man of the Year,’ he said. “These 17 years as middle school principal and superintendent have been among the most enjoyable and rewarding of my career.

“It is a tribute to our Board of Education, students, educators, parents and the entire Eastchester community that education is held in such high regard. This award is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of all these constituents.”
