EASTCHESTER, N.Y. While schoolchildren in Eastchester are busy soaking up the sun during their last few weeks of summer vacation, district workers are busy behind the scenes, making sure the buildings are ready come September.
The Eastchester Union Free School Districts buildings wont look radically different in the fall; the schools simply underwent routine maintenance, including painting, trimming and floor-waxing, as work crews prepare for students, not campers, to fill the hallways.
This summer, no extensive renovations were completed in the district, though basic work has started on the addition to the middle school, said district spokesperson MaryEllen Byrne.
Today, the second-floor hallways of Eastchester High School look more like a construction site, with buckets of Spackle, cans of paint and carts filled with light bulbs. Come the first bell of the fall, the work will be finished and students will once again roam the freshly touched-up halls.
Its just basic stuff that were doing, one worker in the high school said. Everything will be good to go once school starts up again.
