During the seven-session residency that began last year, Lopez – whose work has been featured in galleries from coast to coast – taught the students the intricacies of still life and landscape painting with oils.
Students from the Advanced Studio and Portfolio Preparation and Advanced Placement art classes participated in the program, which included demonstrations and individual painting sessions from Lopez, who teaches privately from her studio at the New York Academy.
The oil painting residency was made possible through a grant from the Eastchester Schools Foundation. The student’s art work will be on display through January at the OSilis Gallery at Concordia College, and several of the top pieces will be featured at the annual Eastchester Arts Festival in May.
