EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Some of the top officials from Samsung are set to travel across the globe this week to see some of their newest technology at work at the Tuckahoe school district.

Members of Samsung’s Education Team will be traveling from South Korea to the small village in Eastchester on Thursday to witness how Tuckahoe students and teachers handle their Chromebooks and make use of the improved technology in the classroom.

As part of the Tuckahoe Technology for All initiative, the district purchased 700 Google Chromebooks , providing every student above second grade with access to laptops in the classroom on a daily basis.

Last year, John Krouskoff, a certified Google expert and BOCES consultant, trained Tuckahoe teachers about becoming experts in using the new technology, how to make the greatest use of the Chromebooks in the classroom and how to properly use certain Google applications.

Now, officials from Samsung will have the opportunity to see the fruits of that labor.

“Chromebooks have the potential to change the way teachers teach and students learn,” third-grade teacher Michael Gray said. “The ability to integrate technology into virtually every lesson and engage students by giving them the opportunity to collaborate with one another online both in and out of the classroom is exciting.”

According to Superintendent Barbara Nuzzi, the Korean team from Samsung, composed of technical developers and engineers, will also meet with Tuckahoe’s technology team to review the Google Management Console, including how it is used to manage the district’s devices and make on-site repairs.

“The Samsung company representatives from Korea chose to visit the Tuckahoe school district because of the district’s progressive approach in ensuring access to technological devices for all students, as well as their integration of Chromebooks into daily instruction,” she said.

"According to Samsung’s regional representative, Stacy Moore, this visit will ‘help with future product development.’”
