Michael Boriskin, the artistic and executive director of Copland House in Cortlandt, will present a three-part lecture series previewing performances at Copland House at Merestead in Bedford. Discounted tickets will be available to Scarsdale Adult School students, though attendance is not mandatory. Boriskin's lectures will outline three performances planned that will pair music and poetry.

Opera expert Fred Plotkin, who is known for his seminars at the Metropolitan Opera Guild and who lectures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will join the Adult School for his class “Understanding Opera: Prima Donna or Diva.” The class will highlight several of the leading ladies of the opera.

Pianist Edmund Niemann, a faculty member at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School and Princeton University, will examine symphonies, operas and quartets that came out of 20th-century Russia. He also will host a lecture that will explore the difference between French music and the sounds of Germany and Italy.

A five-week introduction to the elements and development of music in Western civilization will be presented by John T. King, the director of music for the Hitchcock Presbyterian Church and conductor of the New Choral Society.

There also will be several classes introducing students to the works of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. Italian pianist Christiana Pegoraro will lead the discussion on the three composers.
