The changes are part of a continuing effort to make schools safer, which also includes the recent hiring of Vigilant Resources International, a security firm founded by former New York City Police Commissioner Howard Safir.
The district said a team from the security firm will visit school buildings this week to review safety procedures, meet with school officials and hold interviews to find out how it can help the district.
“Threats, risks and vulnerabilities to each of the district school facilities will be assessed, and a series of prioritized recommendations will be provided,” the district said in a statement.
“The assessment process will be thorough and extensive, and will include building visits, document review, meetings, and interviews,” the district said.
“VRI has a highly qualified team of professionals that has extensive experience conducting school security assessments in Westchester, Fairfield County and elsewhere,” the district said.
The New Rochelle school district is testing a buzzer system for Trinity, Columbus, and Barnard schools, which it expects to roll out throughout all its buildings. The district has also relocated security desks at some schools where it felt it was necessary and appropriate.
