In November, the Eastchester School District announced schools would be open next Thursday and Friday, and during spring break on May 3 after emergency days were utilized during the storm.
In Tuckahoe, schools will be open Tuesday through Thursday, allowing for back-to-back three-day weekends. Each district has contingency plans in case Mother Nature forces more missed classes.
State law mandates schools be in session no less than 180 days. There was hope legislation would pass that may alter that rule, but Eastchester Superintendent Marilyn Terranova advised parents any decision would be in regards to financial aid.
“Please note that impending legislation granting waivers for lost schools days due to the storm will likely relate in financial aid, not makeup days,” she wrote to parents. “We know that this change in our school calendar may be inconvenient, but we hope you understand our dilemma.”
