Snow Forces Eastchester Schools To Use May Make-up Date

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Due to the barrage of winter weather that has pelted Westchester County since the start of the new year, school officials in Eastchester have been forced to utilize the district’s first make-up day.

Eastchester schools will be open for regular classes on May 21, which was originally a scheduled off day.

With Mother Nature forcing schools to be closed for two snow days, class will instead be in session Thursday, May 21, which was a scheduled day off for students. If another make-up date is needed, schools will be opened Friday, May 22.

Each year, when the district is preparing its calendar for the academic year, officials set aside emergency make-up dates in case there is an excess of snow days so parents can have a contingency plan in place ahead of time.

State law mandates school be in session no less than 180 days each academic year in order to qualify for state aid.
