TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – After a lengthy search for a new superintendent that began in November, the Tuckahoe School District has rebooted the process and is seeking input from the community about what qualities they look for in candidates.

A survey was posted on the district website Wednesday asking the community what traits and qualities are most important to them in a superintendent.

On Monday night, the Board of Education announced that it had met with several candidates, none of whom were determined to be a good fit. The board has hired a recruiting firm, Hazard, Young and Attea, to aid it in their search.

The Board of Education, with the help of the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (SWBOCES), current Superintendent Edward Reilly and Director and Finance Bruce Watkins, began recruiting candidates on Nov. 7, narrowing the field to a dozen last month.

None of those candidates fit the bill, leading to Board President Julio Urbina to reach out other recruiting firms. Because the district is part of SWBOCES, it was not charged for the initial search. It is expected to cost between $20,000 and $30,000 for Hazard, Young and Attea’s services.

“After careful consideration, the Board of Education has determined that the superintendent candidates presented by SWBOCES would not be a good fit for the district,” Urbina said after the first failed search. "(We) are contacting other search firms in hopes of tapping into a well-qualified pool of candidates who would pose the characteristics necessary to succeed as superintendent.”
