Students, faculty and administrators gathered Wednesday to unveil the new bench in the playground at the school. The idea is a child feeling lonely during recess can sit on the bench so other classmates know he or she is looking for something to do, school officials said.
It is a non-threatening way to let other classmates know when someone wants to be included, officials said. It is part of a bigger initiative at school to foster kindness at school at all times, not just during recess.
The bench was donated by the Tuckahoe Parents-Teachers Association. For more details, visit the Tuckahoe Union Free School District website.
